Fluid therapy in bovine cattle

Resumen

Muchas enfermedades tanto en terneros como en el ganado adulto son caracterizadas por deshidratación. Disturbios severos del estado ácido-base, desbalances electrolíticos, así como cambios bioquímicos, ocurren frecuentemente en este cuadro y es la fluidoterapia una herramienta valiosa para corregir estos imbalances. Sin embargo, es esencial corregir el problema subyacente tan rápidamente como sea posible. Teniendo en cuenta que el acceso a pruebas auxiliares de laboratorio a nivel de campo es restringido, el Médico Veterinario deberá definir, en la medida de lo posible, a través de una historia exacta y un examen clínico completo, si existe un verdadero déficit de agua corporal y/o desequilibrio ácido-base o si existe un déficit de electrolitos, para así seleccionar la vía de administración, el tipo de solución y el volumen de líquidos a administrar, los cuales serán útiles para todos los clínicos de medicina interna bovina.
